With mini horses loaded in the back of her minivan, Hearts and Hooves founder Michelle Kropp began her mission of goodwill traveling to hospitals, nursing homes, Alzheimer units, hospitals, schools for persons with disabilities, anywhere these animals could make a difference.
Troubled Youth
These kids love the little horses that are not perfect...they learn to love, learn compassion, and most of all, empathy.
Hospitals, Seniors Care Centres, Alzheimer Care Centres, and Pallative Care
Many Seniors relive their own memories on the farm with hearty laughs; long forgotten tears are sometimes shed from the lives these little horses rekindle.
We believe in the magic of brightening some ones day, and how better then to visit those who are not well in care at a hospital or in Pallative Care. The moments spent with the indivduals we have meet are often undescribable, our aim is for everyone to find release in their own smile, share in heartsfelt laughter, and just enjoy a special moment in time.
Visits to schools for children with special needs
Hearts & H ooves Reach Out– goal orientated therapy based programs for children with special needs in Edmonton and area schools. Hearts & Hooves Reach Out Program provides social, motivational, educational, therapeutic, and recreational incentives and benefits to already existing programs and goals.
Home Visits
We have on occasion visited people and families in need, sometimes in crisis at their homes. These visits are very intimate and always lift everyone's spirits.
Day Programs at the Farm
Hearts & Hooves is working with different groups to provide Goal - Orientated Day Programs at the farm for groups of Seniors, Special Needs programs, Youth At Risk, and Adult Day Support Programs. The purpose behind these programs is to enrich the lives of each individual as they become part of the Hearts & Hooves family.
Youth Volunteer Program
Involves both youth and sometimes families in events at the farm caring for the horses, in the community assisting with visits, fundraising events, and community walks. Our Volunteer Program is a fun family atmosphere with a focus on learning through the love of a horse.
